Gillie Hoyte Byrom has won numerous awards for her enamel miniatures both in the UK and abroad.   She won the top award in Enamel Painting in the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council competition for fifteen years in succession, together with the Jacques Cartier Memorial Award in 2007 and Special Awards for excellence on five occasions.

Since training in Barcelona in 1990 Gillie has created about 500 portrait miniatures in vitreous enamel.  Subjects include both contemporary and historical portraits, framed as miniatures, jewellery or incorporated with precious boxes.   The advantage of enamel paint is that it has been fired in a kiln many times and will never fade in sunlight.  These miniatures are tomorrow’s heirlooms.

In parallel with commissioned work, Gillie has begun to teach this rare art to others.
