Evangeline Long
Evangeline works mainly on sheet copper, single or linked panels, freestanding or wall hung. Themes are chosen for their potential to exploit colour and texture. Imagery is derived from observation of natural or manmade subjects such as distressed surfaces or interplay of natural forms. Her first encounter with enamelling came about in the 70’s. She was mesmerised by the seduction of this medium. Since that time her work has been almost entirely involved with enamel on copper and has consisted of a wide range in output from large multi panelled murals carried out in factories to, these days, small works fired in a home studio kiln. Having trained as a sculptor and ceramicist she also produces pieces which have been made from cutting and forming sheet copper three dimensionally before enamelling.
