Jane Short
Jane is a well established enameller making items of champlêvé enamel and silverware. Often made to commission these pieces can be richly coloured or make more subtle use of the wide range of colours available to the enameller, also using engraving and carving to add an extra decorative element to her work. The designing, carving, enamelling and engraving is carried out by Jane and the making of the piece by the silversmith Clive Burr. Trained in the 1970’s in jewellery design at the Central School of Art and Design, and silversmithing at the Royal College of Art, Jane has work in several major collections including the V&A, the Fitzwilliam and Ashmolean Museums, the Queens Collection, and the Goldsmiths’ Collection. She has taught enamelling widely throughout her career, and has been awarded an MBE for services to the Craft of Enamelling. She is a Liveryman of the Goldsmiths’ Company and currently lives and works in Brighton.
